travelling theater program

"Dula" means "theater play", "Ulat" means "report" and "pang-mulat" means to "awaken" or literally, to open the eyes of. The Dulaang Ulat Pangmulat trains young stage actors from urban poor communities to perform plays on reproductive health and related issues in different urban poor areas in Metro Manila. This project is in connection with the Ulat Pangmulat Project of 5 and Up, made possible through a grant from the Ford Foundation, Philippines.

The traveling theater provides the performers and audience (children and their parents) with opportunities for:
learning and values formation through creative and entertaining performances (plays, songs, dances and puppet shows)
exchange of information and opinions with peers, parents and teachers using the theater performances as points of discussion
making informed decisions concerning their sexuality and life-planning decisions
The performances are held in basketball courts, barangay halls or common community areas where 200 to 500 children and parents watch the performances. Each performance runs from 30 to 45 minutes. The plays tackle the topics listed below. The dates and venues are also indicated.
